January is School Board Recognition month in Friendswood ISD. The District will honor the seven elected officials on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board.
To highlight the celebration, the seven trustees will be “adopted” by a campus in the District, the Special Education Department and the Technology Department. Each year, the location rotates for each member.
School Board members will be seen at various locations throughout the month as they visit their adopted locations. The campus invites the members to all events of interest to showcase what students are accomplishing.
A small token of appreciation will also be given to Board members by the principals and executive directors at the meeting.
The State theme for School Board Appreciation month is Navigating to Success. The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) promotes the theme each year to build awareness and support.
“Our school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district, all without pay. Their goal is always focused on the future success of the children in our district,” Superintendent Thad Roher said. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do.”
Current Friendswood ISD Board members include President Tony Hopkins, Vice President David Montz, Secretary Rebecca Hillenburg, Laura Seifert, Niki Rhodes, Robert McCabe and Reverend Ralph Hobratschk.
They devote much time each year to conferences, workshops and courses that offer further insight into the varied roles of a successful board.
“It’s more important than ever before that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. Please take a moment and tell school board members ‘thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community.’ Let them know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated,” Roher said.
The FISD Board of Trustees meets regularly the second Monday of each month beginning at 5:45 pm at the Administration Building boardroom at 302 Laurel. It is an open meeting.
