Just as many started the new year with big resolutions and changes, the Friendswood ISD website underwent a big change for 2021. On Monday, Jan. 4, the FISD Communication Department unveiled a new website for the District and its campuses.
Communications Director Dayna Owen said the process of building the new website with software company Finalsite began in July 2020 after realizing how seriously an update was needed.
“During the COVID-19 shutdown [of in-person learning] last March, I quickly realized that parents and students were depending on our website for information more than ever,” Owen said. “Websites must be up-to-date and as cutting edge as our academics are, so how can you try to convince parents you are preparing their children for the future if your website is out of date?”
Owen continued by comparing websites to salesmen.
“I recently read that a website is a 24/7 salesman for your company,” she said. “Thinking about it from that standpoint, we just had so many things to do to meet the needs of our ‘clients,’ so we hit the ground running. It was a tedious process but well worth it.”
Among some of the changes to the District and campus websites is a sleek new appearance, simplified navigation, improvements to accessibility, high-quality photos and videos, and the ability to send out alerts across all website pages.
Just as everyone was forced to adapt to unforeseen circumstances in 2020, the Communications Team plans to ensure that its website continues to adapt in order to best serve students, parents, staff and the community.
